The Bakery
Set in the heart of the rolling Cheshire countryside, tucked away in a converted barn on a traditional dairy farm, is the Speckled Hen® Country Bakery. Named after a much loved collection of rare breed hens, (many of whom are indeed speckled!), the bakery has developed and grown in response to a demand for quality baked goods, that have the real taste of home cooking.
Too many of the vast range of cakes and biscuits available in our shops today, contain an ever increasing list of added ingredients, many of which are unnecessary and a cheap alternative to using the real thing. So we have adopted a real back to basics approach, sourcing ingredients of the highest quality and which have most importantly undergone minimal processing - unrefined sugars, untreated flours, free range eggs for example. We also refrain from using artificial additives, preservatives, flavourings and colourings. So if you buy our Irish Cream fudge, you will see it contains only real whiskey, not a cheap substitute and we think you will taste the difference this makes!!
To ensure quality is maintained at every stage, all of our products are handmade. They are prepared and baked in a traditional way, by dedicated staff who are equally passionate about what we are trying to achieve. Everyone is involved in product development and all their opinions valued!
There have been some exciting new developments here at the bakery. The recently extended premises have allowed us to continue with and develop our 'Little Chicks' baking parties and also provide parents with the opportunity to relax in more comfortable surroundings, while their children are busy baking some delicious goodies to take home.
We have also introduced 'Sew Great' parties which enable children to spend two hours engaged in learning some sewing techniques with our talented sewing team. The aim is hopefully to encourage and inspire children to further pursue sewing related activites in the future. The bakery also now has a new packing room, to assist with our other new venture, an online bakery shop. Goods can now be purchased using a variety of payment methods and sent anywhere within the UK, either as a gift or just for you if you wish. We also in addition to our bakery goods and hampers, have a selection of children's baking accessories in our 'Little Chicks' shop, guaranteed to inspire young chefs everywhere!
